Materials Needed to Make Pouches:

  • Felt
  • Yarn
  • Chaplet
  • Scissors (We e'er usefabric scissors to brand super make clean cuts)
  • Sharpie Markers
  • Ruler
  • Masking Record

How to Make a No-Sew Felt Drawstring Bag with Kids

1.  Fold your felt sail in half and so in half once again.

ii.  Grab your ruler because nosotros're doing some math!

Math Time:  Retrieve circles and how their radiuses (distance from the circle's heart to the edge of the circle) are the same all throughout the circle?  We're going to use that math knowledge to cut out a circular shape from our rectangular slice of felt!

My folded rectangle's shortest side was 4 1/2", so I took a ruler and measured four 1/2" from the center of my larger slice of felt (which is the lower left corner of my folded felt rectangle) outwards.  (Basically, I'm going to cut out a circle with a radius of 4 ane/2.")

5.  And opened information technology up to reveal a circle!

Ooh la la! Math magic!

(Note:  You could also merely trace a circular object similar a plate onto your piece of felt.  But I found this way to be a great style to teach math AND utilise the greatest corporeality of felt to create the largest purse.)

6.  Now we're going to make xvi approximately equal cuts around our circumvolve, nigh i" from the border.
This is where nosotros volition weave our string through the felt.

Time for some more than.... math magic!

Let'south do this by center!

Imagine the circle similar a clock face up.  Made marks at the 12, iii, vi, and 9 positions.  (These 4 marks are noted by the 1s  in the picture.)

Then, make 4 marks halfway between each of the 1s.  (Noted by the 2s in the flick below.)

Then, make 8 marks halfway between each of the 1s and 2s. (Noted every bit the 3s in the flick beneath.)

Now you should have a total of 16 marks!

Cut minor slits at each of those marks.

7.  Now cut out about xl" of yarn.

8.  Wrap your masking tape around 1 stop so yous tin can "run up" through your cuts.  Stick a slice of masking record to the other side then that yous won't accidentally pull your yarn all the manner through.

10.  Pull both strings to reveal your pouch!  (This is the magical part!)

11.  Remove your masking tape and necktie on beads to the ends of the string so that the yarn won't pull through your slits.
